Makeup.. Through the Years

For over thousands of years cosmetics has evolved and has taken its part in the society.

Early Egyptians used makeup because they believed that makeup has magical powers to drive off evil spirits. They particularly apply kohl as an eyeliner to form an almond-shaped eye to resemble the eye of their god Horus.

In the Bible makeup was mentioned as being used by Queen Jezebel on her eyelids which is known today as eyeshadow. Queen Esther also had some beauty regimen.

Here in the Philippines in the earlier times, women who wore colorful makeup would be considered as prostitutes. Elite women wore pale makeup to give the impression of "never-been-under-the-sun" look.

Over the years makeup has largely evolved and developed. If women before wore pale makeup as this connotes a high status and beauty, now women and yes even men, wear makeup not just to look beautiful but as a part of their daily skin care regimen. I myself has discovered only recently my interest for makeup.
